NBRB's position on broadband

NBRB supports broadband technology, especially for low-income communities. We see how broadband technology can help close the digital divide. We also believe it empowers the minority community with the latest technological advances it needs to transfigure all communities on social, political and historic levels.

NBRB is a member of the Minority Media and Telecom Council (MMTC) and supports its broadband and social justice initiatives. Its purpose is to make sure that minority broadcasters in minority communities are treated fairly and receive equal access to broadband technologies.

We are committed to working with affinity organizations such as The Future of TV and share in their beliefs digital broadcasting has revolutionized television by bringing consumers hyper local content critical to their lives and communities.

Given the advances in digital television — multicast channels, mobile digital television, and more diversity in programming than ever before — we believe that the future of broadcasting has never looked brighter. However, one of our fears is that spectrum auctions, if conducted without protecting the Black religious broadcasters who remain in business, would undermine our ability to air what we deem is critical programming to our target audience (i.e. the Black Church and church-going people).
